Metz 45CT-1

  • This particular type of Metz flash has a guide number of 45, a lot more power than the average flash.
  • Normally this flash unit can be used to take great indoor photos, but other fun things can be done with it too.

  • This thin plastic bag was hit with the flash gun set on full power. The bag melted very quickly on the black areas.
  • Polystyrene foam can be coloured black with a black marker. When the flash is pulsed on the area, the foam will melt.

    A damaged microsoft CD
Another CD damaged by the Metz.

  • The flash gun can also be pulsed on the back of old CD's, the painted areas will be embossed on the other side.(The CD will also be permanently damaged.)
  • Balloons can also be popped by holding the flash up to the balloon.
  • Pulsing the flash gun on black and white paper can make puffs of smoke come from the paper, although the paper will show no signs of burning.

  • Caution Flash gun should not be directly touching the material being tested, as the plastic window of the gun may stick to the bag etc. Thin glass material may be put inbetween, or hold the gun 2 or 3mm from the surface.

Send me some email if you have any other experiments that can be done with this sort of flash.
